| Sterilizers for offices use dry heat, steam, or chemical sterilization. Steam is the usual sterilizer used for small offices and a sterility indicator is used in the tray. The tray size obviously must be sufficiently large to accommodate the instruments such as 15cm RF probe plus the cord protruding from the end of the probe. Either a peel-pack system or tray system is used. The try system is the easier to use since the peel packs require substantial drying time and must be dried in the sterilizer. Some sterilizers such as the Pelton Crane XL have a filtered closed door drying system ($4,000 new) while the less expensive systems use open door drying and depressurization. More expensive sterilizers use a vacuum pump for removal of air and steam but these are prohibitively expensive for an office setting ($12,000-20,000). The vacuum systems are useful when peel packs are used as they remove air and moisture from the sealed packs. |
